History of Moody
Moody was named for Epps Moody, the first man to build his house in the village, in 1820. The Epps family home still
sits today beside the City Hall with the original chimney Mr. Moody built.
After the War Between the States, Moody people began to establish a growing community. The first school was built in 1879 and the first church was organized in 1882. Moody remained a quiet rural community for nearly a century until becoming incorporated in 1962. From this point on, Moody has grown quickly. Once a small residential community to now one of the fastest growing communities in the State of Alabama, with over 11,000 people.
Come and see why Moody is a great place to live, work, play and raise a family.
